The setting of Oliver's Hamlet is on the top of a clift which is very dark and dull sort of lik a greyish color and it appears to have clouds. In this version there is not alot of music but at some points it is to emphasize on some of the things Hamlet is saying. I did not like this version very much because Hamlet spoke very soft throughout the whole scene which I felt showed no emotion. The only movement I noticed was when Hamlet looks down at the castle and leans on the rock. I think the director was trying to convey Hamlet to be very drained out and hopeless. I think there are so many different versions of this one speeech because there can be many different feelings when conteplating suicide.
The Mel Gibson version of this takes place in the Catacomb where his father was buried. In this version Hamlet spoke more loud and showed more emotion. I liked this version the best because the actor playing Hamlet really made me feel as if he was contemplating on killing himself.  I think the setting was significant in this speech because a part of why Hamlet been feeling so down was because of his father's death so the fact that he's there while saying this speech shows us that the death of his dad took a big impact on his life.\
Zeffirelli's version of Hamlet took place inside the castle infront of a mirror. This version has the most color. The fact the Hamlet was actually looking at himself in the mirror is important because it emphasizes the fact that he is talking to hisself. I think this shows alittle emotion bcause it demonstrates the struggles Hamlet is going through within hisself. On this vesion Hamlet also pulls out a dagger which shows he is conreplatind suicide ith the method of stabbing hisself
The 4th veraion of this speech takes place in a block buster . In this version there is a voice over that indicates one emotion. I portrayed the actor in this scene as someone who just gave up on life but I think he couldve showed more emotion by talking hisself.

The Ghost Scene

After watching the different versions of Hamlet I can say my favorite one is the Kenneth Branagh version  because it was more easy to understand. In this version the actor Branagh seemed very shocked and scared to see his father and I think those feelings are  realistic upon any individual who see's a ghost despite the fact of it being your father.  In this version there was  music, and sound effects that kept me engaged in the movie and indicated that it was an important part. I also think the sound effects set off a spooky tone to this scene. In this version there is no lightening but are other effects such as the smoke coming out of the ground and the way the scene moves.Kenneth Branagh version of this scene is very dark which makes the scene more scary which is how I think it should be. The flashbacks in this scene gave the audience a understanding of what the father was telling Hamlet and what he thought was going on between his wife and brother while he was alive.
If I were to do this scene myself I would make this scene very dark and act like Kenneth Branaugh did. I would have King Hamlet act very frustrated and angry during this scene and then let him till Hamlet that he thinks Gertrude has been cheating on him with his brother while he was alive and use the flashbacks to help the audience understand his thoughts.

In the (Franco) Zeffirelli version the actor Mel Gibson portrayed Hamlet to be calm and less scared when he saw his father's ghost instead he seemed to be more desperate and had had more of n emotional connection with his father. The Mel Gibson version of Hamlet did not use alot of over the top sound effects instead he used very soft music which kept the audience in suspence. In this version the audience had to pay more attention to what was being said.
